1950 Canadair F-86E Sabre
Description
The Canadair F-86E Sabre was a swept-wing fighter aircraft manufactured by Canadair in the 1950s. It was based on the North American F-86 Sabre, the first fighter aircraft to use a swept-wing design. The F-86E Sabre was designed to meet the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) requirement for a modern fighter aircraft to replace their aging fleet of aircraft. The F-86E was powered by a single General Electric J47-GE-27 turbojet engine capable of producing 5,200 pounds of thrust. It was equipped with four 20 mm cannons and could carry a variety of air-to-ground and air-to-air ordnance. The F-86E Sabre was used by the RCAF from 1954 until 1959 and was eventually replaced by the Canadair CF-104 Starfighter.
