1982 BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk 84
Description
The British Aircraft Corporation Strikemaster Mk 84 was a variant of the BAC 167 Strikemaster, a British jet-powered training and light attack aircraft. It was developed in the late 1960s and entered service with the Royal Saudi Air Force in 1971. The Mk 84 was the most widely produced variant of the Strikemaster, with a total of 46 aircraft built.
The Mk 84 was powered by two Rolls-Royce Viper Mk 514 turbojet engines and had a maximum speed of 830 km/h. It was armed with two 7.62 mm machine guns in the wings and could carry up to 1,000 kg of external stores, including bombs, rockets, and gun pods. It also had an advanced avionics suite, including a head-up display and a digital weapons system.
The Strikemaster Mk 84 saw service in the Middle East and South East Asia, where it was used for close air support and ground attack missions. It was retired from service in the early 2000s, with the last aircraft being retired from service in 2006.
