1980 MiG-21UM “Mongol-B”
Description
The MiG-21UM "Mongol-B" is a two-seat trainer version of the MiG-21F-13 (Mongol-A) fighter. It was developed to provide advanced pilot training for fighter pilots and was first flown in 1980. It is powered by a single Tumansky R-13F-300 turbojet engine and features a longer fuselage, a larger vertical tail, an additional cockpit for the instructor, and an extended landing gear for the additional weight. The Mongol-B is not equipped with air-to-air missiles, but can be armed with two 7.62mm machine guns and up to 500kg of external stores. It has a maximum speed of Mach 1.5 and a service ceiling of 16,400 meters.
